Of note from kindergarteners 2024 October 30

I must share some heartfelt goodies plus an I interesting conversation from my classes.

I was sitting on an inside bench during lunch. A teacher was taking two kindergarteners to their special session. The little girl points to me and tells this teacher "She helps me." The little boy follows with " She helps me, too." I had helped them today with letter sounds, particularly vowels, and writing the letters C, D, and G.

Then a class comes in from the playground and every one of them hugged me on their way back to class, all while staying in line but deviating directions to include me in their route. The teacher just smiled so sweetly at me.

In my fourth kindergarten class, a little doll of a girl comes to stand by me and after a few seconds asks " Are you an old lady?". I say yes, I guess I am. She asked my age, if I still had my mom and dad, had kids, and if I had any sisters or brothers. I answered every question then she smiles and tells me the age of the teacher and goes back to her table. The inquisitive mind and curiosity of the child was intriguing to me. We shared smiles during the entire conversation. The timing of her questions is of equal interest. The teacher had just moments before told her class that they could ask me questions if they needed help or anything. The little one availed herself of that opportunity. She was definitely listening and I'm still smiling.

Adults could learn from these littles when dealing with or addressing others. Openness. Sincerity. Directness. Kindness. Caring hearts. Hugs without an agenda or ulterior motives.

Precious moments today, AGAIN. Memories, too.

School volunteer and book fair 2024 October

 For me, it's a joy!

I'm talking about my volunteer time in seven classrooms on Mondays and Tuesdays. However, this week is Grandparents Week plus our Book Fair and I'm volunteering in the library for four days this week. Equally enjoyable.

At this school, each teacher puts books in her named basket for Grandparents or others who might want to purchase one or more books for the teacher’s classroom. I have four kindergarten classes and three second grade classes this year.

Each year as gifts to "my" teachers plus my grandsons two teachers I've been buying the unpurchased books for the teachers after their respective Grandparents Day has passed. I think of them as an investment in the growth and development of the students AND it helps a teacher. Plus, it's books so it's an easy decision for me. Lol

This year I received a hand drawn Thank You note from each student in two of my Kindergarten classes. I was so happy and had tears of joy for their thoughtfulness plus the example set by the teachers for them in the “good manners department” which is becoming a lost art.  Pictures were drawn of their family, flowers, the classroom, books, etc. on or in the cards. Beyond sweet!

They will live in the memories box in my living room along with those previously received. Happy Day!!!

I'm thankful and feel blessed to be in these classrooms plus feel all warm and fuzzy inside every Monday and Tuesday. Blessings come in all forms.
